Finesse at the Final Poker Table

Texas Holdem poker tournaments typically pay out prizes to about 10 percent of the players. If there were 100 to start, then the final ten often win some prize money. If there were forty, then only four will walk away with a profit.

The tension factor generally relaxes at the final table in live online casino games when the “bubble” goes out and the remaining players know they are “in the money.” At this point, the blinds are high, and there are only a few players. Often it is simply a battle of the blinds at this point, with other players forgoing any action in hopes of letting one of the blinds eliminate the other. This provides an automatic advancement in the rankings to passive players, and can be a tactic for increasing your profit.

When down to only a few players, any two live cards are more valuable than at a full table. Because players are often in a “tight” mode at Texas Holdem final tables, there can be opportunities to raise the pot when you’re dealt a power hand. It will probably prevent other action coming in behind you, and may force one or both of the blinds to fold. With a power hand, like AA, KK, AK, suited ace or high pocket pair, you’re most likely to have a better hand than the random blinds.

Of course, you should always gauge your option to raise on what you’ve observed about the players’ style betting after you. At this juncture though, most players are apt to play tight or else on “tilt” - letting frustration take over their game. In either case, your raise with a power hand could win the pot.
