Laser Tatoo Removal
Recent statistics show that about 11 million Americans have one tattoo or more, and that about half of that population regrets this decision. In the past, procedures to remove tattoos have been primitive and, for the most part, unsuccessful. Today’s option is much more reliable: laser tattoo removal. But be warned, it’s not 100% effective, and can be quite costly, and painful.
Laser tattoo removal works by blasting a stream of colored light beams into the tattoo ink. This concentrated beam is meant to break down the ink, and allow the smaller particles to be naturally destroyed by the body. Removal is usually the most successful on areas that have more body fat, such as the chest, or arms.
Each treatment only last a few minutes, but must be performed multiple times. Expect to visit the laser tattoo removal clinic at least 3 to 4 times over an eight week period. The color, shape, and size of the tattoo also play a factor in successful removal. The darker and more complex the tattoo, the harder it is to erase.
Because this procedure is considered cosmetic, most insurance companies will not cover the costs of the removal. So expect to pay hundreds, if not thousands of dollars. Laser tattoo removal can be an expensive, time consuming process, but it is the best option if you want rid yourself permanently of unwanted body art.
